System memory holds the instructions that are executed by the processor. Your system contains 16 memory sockets organized into 8 channels per processor.

Removing a memory module Prerequisites 1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions. 2. Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system. Remove the air shroud. WARNING: The memory modules are hot to touch for some time after the system has been powered off. Allow the memory modules to cool before handling them.
Installing a memory module Prerequisites 1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions. 2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system. Remove the air shroud. Steps 1. Locate the appropriate memory module socket. CAUTION: Handle each memory module only by the card edges, ensuring not to touch the middle of the memory module or metallic contacts.
3. To verify if the memory module has been installed properly, press F2 and navigate to System Setup Main Menu > System BIOS > Memory Settings. In the Memory Settings screen, the System Memory Size must reflect the updated capacity of the installed memory.

Drive cage This is a service technician replaceable part only. Removing the 2.5-inch rear drive cage Prerequisites 1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions. 2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system. 3. If required, remove the air shroud.
Steps 1. Align the slot on the rear drive cage with the guide on the system. 2. Slide the rear drive cage towards the rear of the chassis. 3. Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, tighten the blue thumbscrew that secures the rear drive cage to the system. Figure 94.
